D-Lib Working Session 3A

"Digitization and Conversion"
Chair: M. Stuart Lynn, University of California, Office of the President

The objective of the working group on digitization and conversion is to share experience, develop a code of practice, and strive for sharing of resources amongst people who have large projects to convert library materials to digital forms. This working session will include brief presentations and discussion of the major issues. The session will cover technical, library and operational topics.

Almost every aspect of digital library research is relevant to this topic. For example, sharing converted library objects requires technical work on formats and repository interactions. It requires metadata to describe converted items, suitable naming methods so that they can be identified, and a method for describing intellectual property rights.

Background materials for this session are at: http://www.dlib.org/conversion.html.
